ONE STATION, ONE PRODUCT.

The “One Station One Product” initiative by the Indian Railways, aims to provide uniquely designed sale outlets for locals to sell their indigenous products at stations nationwide. The scheme, designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, provides distinctive outlets that give high visibility to indigenous products, benefiting local craftsmen.

The OSOP scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2022-23, aims to enhance livelihoods through skill development for local artisans, weavers, and craftsmen. Sale outlets are provided at stations nationwide, allotted through a tendering process.

Under Kharagpur division, at present, 23 OSOP stalls are in operation. Amongst them, the OSOP stall at Jaleswar Railway station is hugely attracting the attention of the passengers and locals railway users. The OSOP stall at Jaleswar Railway Station, dedicated to Coir & Jute Products is a centre of attraction amongst the rail users. The OSOP stall at Jaleswar station is in operation since 25th March, 2022. Started as a pilot project, now the scheme has become very popular amongst the local artisans and craftsmen. The operations of the stall are being allotted through tendering process for a spell of 15 days.

Various proprietors and co-operative societies are showing huge interest for the operation of the OSOP stall. Average earning of around Rs. 2100/- per day is being generated through the sale of the beautiful coir and jute products spread over a wide range of toys, mats, show pieces and jute bags. The products are eco-friendly and beautifully crafted by skilled craftsmen. The OSOP scheme is benefiting the local artisans and craftsmen by providing them a bigger platform to exhibit their skills and products and thus also helping them to get better price for their articles.

This scheme is in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ambitious vision for “Vocal for Local” & “Make In India” Initiative and aims at creating employment, self-employment opportunities and to create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of the society. This scheme will be largely impactful for supporting the deprived and weaker sections of the society by providing them a strong platform to showcase their talents and skills and to monetize their work.

The OSOP stall at Jaleswar station is a huge success and Kharagpur division is putting sincere efforts to benefit the local artisans by expanding and popularising the scheme at other stations of the division.
