Railway Protection Force seizes narcotics worth over Rs 21 crore under Operation “Narcos”

New Delhi. As a law enforcement agency, the Railway Protection Force ( RPF) has achieved a significant milestone. Under Operation ” Narcos ” conducted by RPF against drug trafficking during the months of April to July this year (1.04.2024 to 31.07.2024) at railway stations , trains and railway premises across the country , a total of narcotics worth Rs 21,10,29,221 crore have been recovered. Under Operation ” Narcos ” , RPF has also arrested 522 people, achieving success against carriers / transporters carrying narcotics products through Indian Railways and handed them over to the concerned law enforcement agencies for further legal action.

A total of 599 cases of drug smuggling through railways have been reported in these four months and out of these, the highest number of 167 cases have been reported under Southern Railway ( SR) zone. Under Southern Railway, the highest number of narcotics and psychotropic substances worth Rs 6,85,76,978 crore have been recovered by RPF, along with 72 people have been arrested. Similarly, in the North East Frontier Railway ( NFR) zone, narcotics worth Rs 3,74,15,653 crore have been recovered by RPF while disclosing 128 cases and 66 people have been arrested. In the South Eastern Railway ( SER) zone, narcotics worth Rs 2,12,45,871 crore have been recovered by RPF and 72 people have been arrested. The narcotics recovered include ganja , opium, heroin , morphine , hashish etc.
