आईआईटी खड़गपुर के 71वें दीक्षांत समारोह में 3,731 छात्र स्नातक हुए

 आईआईटी खड़गपुर 15 जुलाई, 2025 को अपना 71वां दीक्षांत समारोह मनाएगा। इस अवसर पर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में इसरो के पूर्व अध्यक्ष डॉ. एस. सोमनाथ उपस्थित थे। मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में पर्सिस्टेंट सिस्टम्स के संस्थापक एवं अध्यक्ष डॉ. आनंद देशपांडे, मैपमायजीनोम की सीईओ सुश्री अनुराधा आचार्य और आईआईटी खड़गपुर के बोर्ड ऑफ गवर्नर्स के अध्यक्ष श्री टी. वी. नरेंद्रन उपस्थित थे। भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान खड़गपुर (आईआईटी खड़गपुर) के 71वें दीक्षांत समारोह में कुल 3,731 छात्र स्नातक हुए।

छात्रों को कुल 3,731 डिग्रियाँ प्रदान की गईं, जिनमें 277 पीएचडी, 18 एमएस, 956 एम.टेक, 50 एमसीपी, 142 एमबीए, 23 ईएमबीए, 58 पीजीडीबीए, 5 एमएमएसटी, 28 एमएचआरएम, 18 एम.आर्क., 47 एलएलएम, 31 एलएलबी, 786 दोहरी डिग्री, 614 बी.टेक (ऑनर्स), 46 बी.आर्क. (ऑनर्स), 151 चार वर्षीय बी.एस., 260 पाँच वर्षीय एम.एससी, 214 दो वर्षीय एम.एससी, 3 एम.एससी एम.टेक, 3 तीन वर्षीय एम.एससी और 1 सीईआर (राष्ट्रपति स्वर्ण पदक, प्रधानमंत्री स्वर्ण पदक सहित) और अन्य शामिल हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त, विज्ञान, शिक्षा, अनुसंधान और समाज में उनके उत्कृष्ट योगदान के लिए पूर्व छात्रों को 25 विशिष्ट पूर्व छात्र पुरस्कार प्रदान किए गए।

आईआईटी खड़गपुर ने अनुसंधान और नवाचार के एक केंद्र के रूप में अपनी भूमिका को मज़बूत करने के लिए साहसिक कदम उठाए हैं। आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस और जलवायु प्रौद्योगिकी में प्रगति से लेकर बायोमेडिकल उपकरणों, क्वांटम सामग्रियों, सतत ऊर्जा और ग्रामीण प्रौद्योगिकियों में सफलताओं तक, हमारे संकाय और विद्वान दुनिया की कुछ सबसे जटिल समस्याओं का सटीकता और रचनात्मक अंतर्दृष्टि के साथ समाधान कर रहे हैं। 400 उद्यमियों और 20 यूनिकॉर्न संस्थापकों सहित 80,000 से अधिक पूर्व छात्रों के एक जीवंत नेटवर्क के साथ, आईआईटी खड़गपुर विविध क्षेत्रों में उद्योग परिवर्तनों को आकार देने वाले नेताओं के एक प्रतिष्ठित समुदाय का दावा करता है।

संस्थान के लिए यह वर्ष घटनापूर्ण रहा है, जिसमें कई प्रमुख उपलब्धियाँ शामिल हैं, जिनमें इस वर्ष कई डीप-टेक स्टार्ट-अप का इनक्यूबेशन भी शामिल है। हमारे रिसर्च पार्क और इनक्यूबेशन केंद्रों ने टाटा कंसल्टेंसी सर्विसेज, इकोभूमि बायोएग्री कॉन्सेप्ट्स, सोपाना ब्रांड-लिविंग फाउंडेशन और एक्सलेयर टेक्नोलॉजीज सहित उद्योग जगत के अग्रणी लोगों के साथ साझेदारी का स्वागत किया, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप नए स्टार्ट-अप नवाचार सामने आए और उद्यमिता के एक पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र का पोषण हुआ।  आईआईटी खड़गपुर रिसर्च पार्क स्थित बायोफिलिक स्टूडियो वाटिका ने शैक्षणिक और नवीनता पारिस्थितिकी तंत्रों में बायोफिलिक डिज़ाइन सिद्धांतों को आगे बढ़ाने में एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर स्थापित किया है।

और छात्रों के मानसिक स्वास्थ्य को बढ़ावा देने के लिए कई उपाय किए गए हैं, जिनमें एक विशेषज्ञ समिति का गठन, चौबीसों घंटे व्यक्तिगत परामर्शदाताओं की उपलब्धता, छात्रावास के कमरों में क्यूआर कोड और छात्रों में आत्म-क्षति को रोकने में मदद के लिए एक संरचित परामर्श कैलेंडर शामिल हैं।

और हमारी ‘कैंपस मदर्स’ पहल—जो कैंपस में रहने वाली महिलाओं को छात्रों को भावनात्मक मार्गदर्शन प्रदान करने के लिए प्रेरित करती है—हमारे इस विश्वास को मूर्त रूप देती है कि तकनीकी संस्थानों को भी करुणा का केंद्र होना चाहिए, तकनीकी हस्तक्षेपों और माँ के प्यार के जादुई स्पर्श के सम्मिश्रण द्वारा कैंपस जुड़ाव और छात्र जीवन की गुणवत्ता को बढ़ाना चाहिए। इसने हमारे मानसिक स्वास्थ्य हस्तक्षेप कार्यक्रमों को एक समग्र लचीलेपन में परिवर्तित कर दिया है जो एक सामुदायिक जुड़ाव कार्यक्रम का निर्माण करता है, जो प्रतिक्रियात्मक दृष्टिकोण से आगे बढ़कर सक्रिय दृष्टिकोण की ओर अग्रसर होता है।

संस्थान ने प्रधानमंत्री के मिशन लाइफ आइडियाज4लाइफ पहल में चमक दिखाई, जिसमें हाइड्रोचार उत्पादन में कच्चे सीवेज का उपयोग करके जल पदचिह्न को कम करने और जल संरक्षण, अपशिष्ट प्रबंधन और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा को बढ़ावा देने की उनकी अभिनव परियोजना के साथ एक स्थायी समाधान पेश किया गया। सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्वारा आयोजित विश्व ऑडियो विजुअल और मनोरंजन शिखर सम्मेलन (WAVES) 2025 में, IIT खड़गपुर के एडुस्केपएक्सआर ने वर्चुअल रियलिटी, हैंड-ट्रैकिंग और एआई-आधारित फीडबैक का उपयोग करके एक्सआर क्रिएटर हैकथॉन जीता, जो महंगे लैब बुनियादी ढांचे तक पहुंच की कमी को दूर करते हुए इमर्सिव एसटीईएम प्रैक्टिकल पेश करता है। इसके अलावा, संस्थान के पूर्व छात्रों द्वारा शुरू किए गए स्टार्ट-अप फेथटेक को 2,600 डीपीआईआईटी-मान्यता प्राप्त स्टार्ट-अप के बीच स्टार्ट-अप महाकुंभ 2.0 में एआई, डीपटेक और साइबर श्रेणी में मान्यता दी गई

आईआईटी खड़गपुर अपने बहु-मॉडल पाठ्यक्रम के लिए प्रसिद्ध है जो रचनात्मकता, क्षमता निर्माण और तीव्र तकनीकी एकीकरण को बढ़ावा देता है, जिससे संस्थान डिजिटल अर्थव्यवस्था और उद्यमिता में अग्रणी बन गया है। सुरक्षा इंजीनियरिंग और विश्लेषण उत्कृष्टता केंद्र ने कई प्रोटोटाइप विकसित किए हैं, जिनमें सुरक्षा विश्लेषण सॉफ्टवेयर, एक वर्चुअल रियलिटी (वीआर) सिम्युलेटर, एक डिज़ाइन ब्लूप्रिंट के माध्यम से रोकथाम, वीडियो एनालिटिक्स सॉफ्टवेयर और माइक्रो हैज़र्ड मैपिंग और प्रबंधन (एमएचएमएम) शामिल हैं। केंद्र ने विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग (डीएसटी) के लिए महत्वपूर्ण परियोजनाएँ पूरी की हैं, जो एआई, वर्चुअल रियलिटी मॉडलिंग और सामाजिक-तकनीकी प्रणालियों में जोखिम जागरूकता के साथ-साथ पनडुब्बी प्लेटफार्मों में एनपीओएल और डीआरडीओ के लिए मानव कारक मूल्यांकन पर केंद्रित हैं।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर, हमने शैक्षणिक साझेदारी और वैश्विक दृश्यता को मजबूत किया है। टेक्निशे यूनिवर्सिटेट डार्मस्टाट, बेंटले विश्वविद्यालय, लीड्स विश्वविद्यालय, स्वानसी विश्वविद्यालय, आर्कटिक विश्वविद्यालय नॉर्वे, एडिलेड विश्वविद्यालय ऑस्ट्रेलिया, राष्ट्रीय सामग्री विज्ञान संस्थान, जापान, सिंगापुर प्रबंधन विश्वविद्यालय और गोटिंगेन विश्वविद्यालय जर्मनी के साथ दोहरी डिग्री और संयुक्त डॉक्टरेट कार्यक्रम विविध वैश्विक प्रतिभा और ज्ञान को आकर्षित कर रहे हैं।  हाल ही में, आईआईटी खड़गपुर ने सेमीकॉन साउथईस्ट एशिया 2025 में सिंगापुर की एजेंसी फॉर साइंस, टेक्नोलॉजी एंड रिसर्च (A*STAR) इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ माइक्रोइलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स (IME) के साथ मिलकर सेमीकंडक्टर अनुसंधान, विकास और प्रतिभा पोषण में गहन सहयोग शुरू किया है। यह रणनीतिक साझेदारी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहयोग के माध्यम से एक लचीला, नवोन्मेषी और कुशल सेमीकंडक्टर पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र बनाने के भारत और सिंगापुर के साझा दृष्टिकोण को दर्शाती है। यह संस्थान परिसर में कुल 40 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय छात्रों के साथ अंतर्राष्ट्रीयकरण का दूत है।

शिक्षा के अलावा, संस्थान ने शिक्षा और आउटरीच, स्वास्थ्य सेवा, स्वच्छ जल, पोषण, ग्रामीण विकास, सतत आजीविका और पर्यावरणीय स्थिरता जैसे क्षेत्रों में सीएसआर के तहत प्रभावशाली योगदान दिया है। प्रमुख नवाचारों में पेपर-आधारित हीमोग्लोबिन सेंसर; पेपर-स्ट्रिप और स्मार्टफोन का उपयोग करके एनीमिया की अभिकर्मक-मुक्त तीव्र जांच; एक कार्डियोवैस्कुलर रेप्लिकेटर (CVR) प्रणाली; लार यूरिया का पता लगाने के लिए डिस्पोजेबल सेंसर स्ट्रिप्स शामिल हैं;  2D सामग्री-कार्यात्मक कागज़-आधारित बायोसेंसर; सुवर्णरेखा नदी से जलविद्युत उत्पादन, पश्चिमी अंटार्कटिका की बर्फ की चट्टानों का सतही पिघलना, भारत की प्रमुख खाद्य फसलों पर सतही ओज़ोन प्रदूषण, सहज तेल-जल पृथक्करण के लिए ग्राफीन-संचालित समाधान, स्मार्ट खेती के लिए अर्ध-स्वचालित ट्रैक्ड मोबाइल मैनिपुलेटर सह कृषि रोबोटिक प्रणाली; दृष्टिबाधित और नेत्रहीन लोगों के लिए एक इलेक्ट्रॉनिक यात्रा सहायता (ईटीए), वेन्यूकेन, समावेशी और सतत विकास के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता को रेखांकित करता है।

आईआईटी खड़गपुर ने कार्यशालाओं, सम्मेलनों, उत्सवों, विभिन्न प्रमाणपत्र कार्यक्रमों, संगोष्ठियों और स्व-प्रायोजित और प्रायोजित लघु अवधि पाठ्यक्रमों सहित कुल 138 आउटरीच कार्यक्रमों का सफलतापूर्वक संचालन किया है। शैक्षणिक वर्ष 2023-2024 के दौरान, संस्थान ने शिक्षा मंत्रालय की ‘उद्यमिता और कौशल विकास कार्यक्रम (ईएसडीपी) योजना’ के तहत 08 उन्नत ई-एसडीपी और उन्नत एमडीपी आयोजित किए, जिसके लिए 100 करोड़ रुपये की धनराशि प्राप्त हुई।  योजना मद “प्रचार सेवा संस्थान एवं कार्यक्रम” के अंतर्गत सूक्ष्म, लघु एवं मध्यम उद्यम मंत्रालय से 72.00 लाख रुपये की अनुदान सहायता प्राप्त हुई है। इसके अतिरिक्त, मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय (एमएचआरडी), भारत सरकार द्वारा राष्ट्रव्यापी वैश्विक शैक्षणिक नेटवर्क पहल (जीआईएएन) ढांचे के अंतर्गत वर्ष 2023-2024 के दौरान 04 पाठ्यक्रम संचालित किए गए।

संस्थान को नवीनतम क्यूएस वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग 2026 में भारत में चौथा स्थान प्राप्त हुआ है। संस्थान अपने 2024 के प्रदर्शन की तुलना में 07 स्थान ऊपर चढ़कर विश्व में 215वें स्थान पर आ गया है। संस्थान को यह बताते हुए खुशी हो रही है कि आईआईटी खड़गपुर ने नवीनतम क्यूएस वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग सस्टेनेबिलिटी 2025 में भारत में दूसरा स्थान प्राप्त किया है। संस्थान अपने 2024 के प्रदर्शन की तुलना में 147 स्थान और 41 स्थान ऊपर चढ़कर क्रमशः विश्व में 202वें और एशिया में 23वें स्थान पर आ गया है।  एनआईआरएफ रैंकिंग 2024 में, संस्थान को इंजीनियरिंग में 5वां और समग्र रूप से भारत में छठा स्थान मिला है। आईआईटी खड़गपुर को अनुसंधान में भी 5वां और नवाचार में 9वां स्थान मिला है। वास्तुकला विभाग को भारत में दूसरा और विधि विभाग में 7वां स्थान मिला है। पिचबुक वर्ल्ड यूनिवर्सिटी रैंकिंग 2024 में संस्थान को 45वां स्थान मिला है।

इस वर्ष, निवर्तमान छात्रों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ शैक्षणिक प्रदर्शन के लिए भारत के राष्ट्रपति स्वर्ण पदक, कंप्यूटर विज्ञान एवं इंजीनियरिंग विभाग के श्री ब्रतिन मंडल को प्रदान किया गया। सर्वश्रेष्ठ शैक्षणिक प्रदर्शन के लिए भारत के प्रधानमंत्री स्वर्ण पदक, कंप्यूटर विज्ञान एवं इंजीनियरिंग विभाग के श्री अनुभव धर को प्रदान किया गया। निवर्तमान छात्रों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ सर्वांगीण प्रदर्शन के लिए डॉ. बिधान चंद्र रॉय स्मारक स्वर्ण पदक, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स एवं विद्युत संचार इंजीनियरिंग विभाग की सुश्री सैंड्रा के. जोसेफ को और डॉ. ज्ञान चंद्र घोष स्मारक स्वर्ण पदक, औद्योगिक इंजीनियरिंग के पिरान करकारिया को प्रदान किया गया।

चूँकि आईआईटी खड़गपुर 2026 में अपनी प्लेटिनम जयंती के करीब पहुँच रहा है, इसलिए संस्थान अपने संस्थापक सिद्धांतों के प्रति उत्सव, चिंतन और नई प्रतिबद्धता के एक वर्ष की कल्पना कर रहा है। इस उपलब्धि को चिह्नित करने के लिए, आईआईटी खड़गपुर अगस्त 2025 से अगस्त 2027 तक दो-वर्षीय समारोह का आयोजन करेगा, जिसमें विभिन्न कार्यक्रम होंगे। इस समारोह में परिसर के बुनियादी ढाँचे और छात्र सुविधाओं के महत्वपूर्ण उन्नयन के साथ-साथ अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन, बहु-विषयक शोध व्याख्यान और जीवंत सांस्कृतिक गतिविधियाँ शामिल होंगी।  फरवरी 2026 में एक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय लोक संगीत महोत्सव और मई 2026 में स्पिक मैके अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन इसके मुख्य आकर्षण होंगे। इसके अलावा, संस्थान इस अवसर पर एक स्मारक सिक्का और एक डाक टिकट जारी करेगा। अपनी विरासत को आगे बढ़ाने की भावना से, आईआईटी खड़गपुर छात्र गतिशीलता, कर्मचारी कल्याण, छात्रवृत्ति, शिक्षण प्रयोगशाला उन्नयन और कॉर्पोरेट सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्व (सीएसआर) गतिविधियों जैसी पहलों का समर्थन करने के लिए कई प्लेटिनम जुबली फंड शुरू कर रहा है। समारोह की शुरुआत 18 अगस्त 2025 को एक भव्य कर्टेन-रेजर कार्यक्रम के साथ होगी, जिसमें वैश्विक पूर्व छात्र और शिक्षा जगत तथा उद्योग जगत के विशिष्ट अतिथि एक साथ आएंगे, और अगले दो वर्षों की उपलब्धियों और विकास की नींव रखेंगे।

14th Julwy, 2025 Kharagpur, India: IIT Kharagpur celebrates its 71st Convocation on July 15, 2025 in the august presence of Dr. S. Somanath, Former Chairman, ISRO who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour Dr. Anand Deshpande, Founder & Chairperson of Persistent Systems; Ms. Anuradha Acharya, CEO of Mapmygenome and Shri T V Narendran, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Kharagpur honoured us with their presence. A total of 3,731 students graduated during the 71st Convocation of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur).

As many as 3,731 degrees comprising of 277 PhD, 18 MS, 956 M.Tech, 50 MCP, 142 MBA, 23 EMBA, 58 PGDBA, 5 MMST,28 MHRM,18, M.Arch., 47 LLM, 31 LLB, 786 Dual Degree, 614 B.Tech (Hons), 46 B.Arch (Hons), 151 Four-year B.S, 260 Five-year M.Sc, 214 Two-year M.Sc, 3 M.Sc M.Tech, 3 Three-year M.Sc and 1 CER including the President’s Gold Medal, Prime Minister’s Gold Medal, and others were awarded to the students. Additionally, 25 Distinguished Alumnus Awards were bestowed to the Alumni for their outstanding contributions to science, academia, education, research and society.

IIT Kharagpur has taken bold steps to strengthen its role as a research and innovation powerhouse. From advancements in Artificial Intelligence and Climate Tech to breakthroughs in biomedical devices, quantum materials, sustainable energy and rural technologies, our faculty and scholars are tackling some of the world’s most complex problems with precision and creative insights. With a vibrant network of over 80,000 alumni, including 400 entrepreneurs and 20 unicorn founders, IIT Kharagpur boasts an illustrious community of leaders shaping industry transformations across diverse fields.

The institute has had an eventful year, with many major milestones, including incubating many deep-tech start-ups this year. Our Research Park and incubation centres welcomed partnerships with industry leaders including Tata Consultancy Services, Ecobhumi Bioagri Concepts, Sopaana Brand-Living Foundation and Xlayer Technologies resulting in new start-up innovations nurturing an ecosystem of entrepreneurship. The Biophilic Studio VATIKA at IIT Kharagpur Research Park marked a significant milestone in advancing biophilic design principles within academic and novelty ecosystems.

The Institute has been bestowed with a wide gamut of Sponsored Research Projects and Industrial Consultancy Projects from various reputed funding agencies. In total, the institute has received 165 new sponsored research projects of sanctioned fund worth of INR 113.91 crores and 152 new consultancy projects of sanctioned fund worth of INR 31.11 crores. During the period 869 research projects and 315 consultancy projects were running at SRIC. The total fund received during the period is INR 164.16 crores for research projects and around INR 31.36 crores for consultancy projects. This list includes a number of high-value and flagship projects from the government and the public sector industry, including the ones supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ministry of Textiles, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd., (CMPDI), Telecom Centres of Excellence, Food Corporation of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy etc. In the academic year 2024-25, the Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy filed a total of 170 patents, of which 113 patents have been published and 61 patents granted, underscoring the Institute’s strong innovation and intellectual property footprint. On the occasion of Intellectual Property Day, IIT Kharagpur emphasized the importance of filing patents for institutional and national development and called the IIT KGP community to come forward and make the endeavour of ‘100 patents in 100 hours’ successful.

IIT Kharagpur has restructured and transformed the institutional role of its counselling centre, besides introducing reforms in the organizational set-up to support the mental health and well-being of students in the institute. The institute has rechristened the counselling centre as ‘Sarth,’ which stands for support, acceptance, resilience, therapy and healing. The authorities have started reaching out to students by pasting QR codes on the doors of each hostel room with messages like “Let’s talk! Scan to connect,” and “Every problem has a solution. Let’s find it together.” In a remarkable addition to its student welfare and campus facilities, Zen Lounge, a yoga and meditation hall is dedicated to foster mindfulness, well-being, and mental wellness for the students with a series of measures including the formation of an expert committee, round-the-clock access to in-person counsellors, QR codes in hostel rooms, and a structured counselling calendar to help prevent self-harm among students.

And our ‘Campus Mothers’ initiative—inspiring campus-resident women to provide emotional mentorship to students, embodies our belief that technological institutions must also be centres of compassion, enhancing the quality of campus engagement and student life by the amalgamation of technological interventions and the Midas touch of mother’s love. This has augmented our mental health intervention programs into a holistic resilience building a community engagement program, stepping out from reactive to proactive approach.

The institute shined in Prime Minister’s Mission Life Ideas4Life Initiative offering a sustainable solution with their innovative project of reducing water footprint using raw sewage in hydrochar production and promoting water conservation, waste management, and renewable energy. In the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, IIT Kharagpur’s EduscapeXR won the XR Creator Hackathon using virtual reality, hand-tracking, and AI-based feedback to offer immersive STEM practicals, addressing the lack of access to costly lab infrastructure. Also, Faithtech, a start-up by the alumnus of the institute was recognized in AI, DeepTech & Cyber category at the Start-up Mahakumbh 2.0 among 2,600 DPIIT-recognized start-ups.

IIT Kharagpur distinguishes itself with a multi-modal curriculum that fosters creativity, capacity building, and rapid technological integration, positioning the Institute as a leader in the digital economy and entrepreneurship. The Centre of Excellence for Safety Engineering and Analytics has developed several prototypes, including Safety Analytics Software, a Virtual Reality (VR) Simulator, a Prevention through Design blueprint, Video Analytics Software, and Micro Hazard Mapping & Management (MHMM). The Centre has completed significant projects for DST, focused on AI, virtual reality modelling, and risk awareness in socio-technical systems, as well as human factors evaluation for NPOL, DRDO in submersible platforms.

Internationally, we have strengthened academic partnerships and global visibility. Dual degree and joint doctoral programs with Technische Universitat Darmstadt, Bentley University, University of Leeds, Swansea University, The Arctic University Norway, University of Adelaide Australia, National Institute of Materials Science, Japan Singapore Management University and the University of Göttingen Germany are attracting diverse global talent and knowledge. Recently, IIT Kharagpur has also collaborated with Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Institute of Microelectronics (IME) at SEMICON Southeast Asia 2025, to kickstart deeper collaboration in semiconductor research, development, and talent nurturing. This strategic partnership reflects the shared vision of India and Singapore to build a resilient, innovative, and skilled semiconductor ecosystem through international cooperation. The institute stands as an envoy of internationalization with a total 40 international students on campus.

Beyond academics, the Institute has made impactful contributions under CSR in areas such as Education and Outreach, Healthcare, Clean Water, Nutrition, Rural Development, Sustainable Livelihood, and Environmental Sustainability. Key innovations include Paper-Based Hemoglobin Sensor; Reagent-free rapid screening of anaemia using a paper-strip and smartphone; a Cardiovascular Replicator (CVR) system; Disposable Sensor Strips for Salivary Urea Detection; 2D material-functionalized paper-based biosensors; hydroelectric power generation from Subarnarekha River, surface melting across West Antarctic ice shelves, surface ozone pollution on India’s major food crops, Graphene-Powered Solution for Effortless Oil-Water Separation, Semi-Automatic Tracked Mobile Manipulator cum Agricultural Robotic System for smart farming; Venucane, an electronic travel aid (ETA) for visually impaired and blind people among others, underscoring its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

IIT Kharagpur has successfully conducted a total of 138 Outreach Programmes including Workshops, Conferences, Fests, various Certificate Programs, Symposiums and both Self-Sponsored and Sponsored Short Term Courses. During the academic year 2023-2024, the institute conducted 08 Advanced E-SDP and Advanced MDP under ‘Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programmes (ESDP) scheme’ of the Ministry of Education receiving funds of Rs. 72.00 lakhs as Grants-in-Aid from the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise under the Plan Head “Promotional Services Institutions & Programmes.” Additionally, 04 Courses were conducted during the year 2023-2024 in the Nation-wide Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) framework by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

The institute has ranked 4th in India in the latest QS World University Rankings 2026. The institute jumped ahead 07 places in comparison to its 2024 performance to become the 215th ranked University in the world. The institute is delighted to share that IIT Kharagpur has ranked 2nd in India in the latest QS World University Rankings Sustainability 2025. The institute jumped ahead 147 places and 41 places in comparison to its 2024 performance to become 202nd in the world and 23rd in Asia respectively. In the NIRF Rankings 2024, the Institute has ranked 5th in Engineering and 6th overall in India. IIT Kharagpur has also ranked 5th in Research and 9th in Innovation. Dept. of Architecture has ranked 2nd in India and 7th in Law. The Institute ranked 45th in the Pitchbook World University Ranking 2024.

This year the President of India Gold Medal for the best academic performance among the outgoing students was awarded to Mr. Bratin Mondal from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The Prime Minister of India Gold Medal for the best academic performance was awarded to Mr. Anubhav Dhar, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy Memorial Gold Medal for the best all-round performance among outgoing students is awarded to Ms. Sandra K Joseph, Department of Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering and the Dr. Jnan Chandra Ghosh Memorial Gold Medal was awarded to Piran Karkaria from Industrial Engineering.

As IIT Kharagpur approaches its Platinum Jubilee in 2026, the Institute envisions a year of celebration, reflection, and renewed commitment to its founding principles. To mark this milestone, IIT Kharagpur will host a two-year celebration from August 2025 to August 2027, packed with a variety of events. The celebrations will feature significant upgrades to campus infrastructure and student facilities, alongside international conferences, multidisciplinary research lectures, and vibrant cultural activities. Among the highlights will be an International Folk Music Festival in February 2026 and the Spic Macay International Convention in May 2026. In addition, the Institute will commemorate this occasion with the release of a commemorative coin and a postal stamp. In the spirit of enhancing its legacy, IIT Kharagpur is launching several Platinum Jubilee Funds to support initiatives such as student mobility, staff welfare, scholarships, teaching lab upgrades, and CSR activities. The celebrations will kick off with a grand curtain-raiser event on 18 August 2025, bringing together global alumni and distinguished guests from academia and industry, setting the tone for the next two years of achieveme
