आईआईटी खड़गपुर ने छात्रों के कल्याण हेतु SETU फ्रेमवर्क किया लॉन्च

भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (आईआईटी) खड़गपुर ने आज 2025 बैच के 1800+ नवप्रवेशित छात्रों का गर्मजोशी से स्वागत करते हुए एक उद्घाटन कार्यक्रम (इंडक्शन प्रोग्राम) का आयोजन किया। यह कार्यक्रम संस्थान के नेताजी और कालिदास ऑडिटोरियम में संपन्न हुआ। इस अवसर की अध्यक्षता संस्थान के निदेशक प्रोफेसर सुमन चक्रवर्ती ने की, जिन्होंने नवप्रवेशित छात्रों और उनके परिवारों को संबोधित किया और उनके आगामी परिवर्तनकारी शैक्षणिक यात्रा की नींव रखी।

कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत दीप प्रज्वलन से हुई, जिसमें मुख्य अतिथि श्री योगेश पाटिल, उप-मंडल अधिकारी (कार्यपालक मजिस्ट्रेट), खड़गपुर, पश्चिम मेदिनीपुर, तथा संस्थान के डीन, विभागाध्यक्ष और अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों की उपस्थिति रही।

प्रोफेसर अरुण चक्रवर्ती, इंडक्शन कार्यक्रम के अध्यक्ष ने कहा:

“हम इन नवयुवाओं के विचारों और नवाचारों को संजोकर विक्सित भारत के निर्माण में सहभागी बनने को तत्पर हैं। हम सौभाग्यशाली हैं कि इनके शैक्षणिक सफर में हमारा योगदान रहेगा।”

प्रोफेसर तपस लाहा, कार्यकारी डीन, छात्र मामलों ने कहा:

“इस कार्यक्रम का मुख्य उद्देश्य छात्रों को शैक्षणिक व गैर-शैक्षणिक इकाइयों की जानकारी देना है। आईआईटी खड़गपुर में हम समग्र विकास को ही असली उत्कृष्टता मानते हैं।”

निदेशक प्रोफेसर सुमन चक्रवर्ती ने अपने मुख्य भाषण में कहा:

“मैं आप सभी का स्वागत करता हूं, जो इस प्रतिष्ठित संस्थान की प्लेटिनम जुबली वर्ष में पहली बार प्रवेश कर रहे हैं। इस ऐतिहासिक वर्ष में हम अंतरविषयक शिक्षा, सामाजिक जुड़ाव और नवाचार के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता को दोहराते हैं। आप केवल एक संस्थान में नहीं आए हैं, बल्कि एक जीवंत विचारों और सेवा के पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र का हिस्सा बन रहे हैं।”

उन्होंने आगे कहा:

“आप उन्हीं गलियारों में चलेंगे जिनमें हमारे पूर्व छात्र – उद्यमी, वैज्ञानिक, समाज सुधारक, और नीति निर्माता – चल चुके हैं। हमारी दृष्टि सिर्फ उत्कृष्ट इंजीनियर बनाना नहीं, बल्कि संपूर्ण इंसान, सहानुभूतिपूर्ण नेता और नैतिक नवप्रवर्तनकर्ता तैयार करना है। इस संस्थान में आपके सपनों को पंख मिलेंगे, लेकिन उड़ान आपकी अपनी होगी।”

SETU@IITKGP – छात्र कल्याण की नई परिभाषा

निदेशक ने SETU (सेतु) का उद्घाटन किया – एक मानव-केंद्रित, तकनीक-सक्षम छात्र कल्याण और सहभागिता ढांचा। SETU का उद्देश्य मानसिक स्वास्थ्य को एक अलग सेवा के रूप में नहीं बल्कि एक समग्र, समावेशी प्रणाली के रूप में स्थापित करना है।

SETU के 5 मुख्य स्तंभ हैं:

1. SARTH द्वारा संचालित समर्पित वेलनेस नेटवर्क – व्यक्तिगत थेरेपी, मनोचिकित्सा, समूह सत्र, 24×7 काउंसलिंग और कैम्पस स्तर पर जागरूकता।

2. एआई आधारित इमोशनल मॉनिटरिंग – छात्रों के भावनात्मक स्वास्थ्य को समझने हेतु तकनीकी समर्थन।

3. छात्र-नेतृत्व वाला नेटवर्क – SWG, IWG, TSG वेलफेयर कमिटियाँ, होस्टल यूनिट्स द्वारा मानसिक स्वास्थ्य को छात्र संस्कृति का हिस्सा बनाना।

4. NEP 2020 से जुड़ी गतिविधियाँ – क्लबों और परियोजनाओं द्वारा सामाजिक जुड़ाव और कर्ज के साथ सीखना।

5. “कैंपस मदर्स” – प्रशिक्षित महिलाएँ जो सांस्कृतिक और भावनात्मक सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करती हैं।

SETU, संस्कृत में “सेतु” का अर्थ होता है पुल – यह अलगाव से समावेशन, असहायता से शक्ति, मन से हृदय और परंपरा से तकनीक तक का सेतु बनाता है।

अभिभावकों की भागीदारी: एक नई शुरुआत

पहली बार, इस इंडक्शन कार्यक्रम में छात्रों के अभिभावकों को भी शामिल किया गया। निदेशक ने उनके साथ एक संवादात्मक सत्र में भाग लिया। उन्होंने कहा:

“आपने अपने बच्चों को हमारे पास नहीं सौंपा है, बल्कि आप उनके भविष्य के साझेदार बन गए हैं। हम अभिभावकों के साथ पारदर्शी और दो-तरफा संवाद को प्राथमिकता देते हैं। हम एक नया ‘पैरेंट-कनेक्ट प्रोग्राम’ शुरू कर रहे हैं, जो समय-समय पर ऑनलाइन आयोजित होगा।”

उन्होंने आगे जोड़ा:

“समस्या को केवल आलोचना से हल नहीं किया जा सकता। हमें सकारात्मक रूप से छात्रों के सामने आने वाली चुनौतियों का समाधान करना होगा। यह संस्थान न केवल शिक्षा देगा, बल्कि जीवन कौशल, समय प्रबंधन, और आत्मनिर्भरता भी सिखाएगा।”

July 25, 2025, Kharagpur, India: IIT Kharagpur formally welcomed its incoming undergraduate 2025 batch of 1800+ freshers with a vibrant Induction Programme, hosted in the Netaji and Kalidas Auditorium of the campus. The event was presided over by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur who addressed the newly admitted students and their families in a gathering that set the tone for their transformative journey ahead. The Induction Programme began with a ceremonial lamp lighting in the presence of the Chief Guest Shri Yogesh Patil Sub-Divisional Officer (Executive Magistrate) Kharagpur, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal; Deans, Heads and other officials of IIT Kharagpur.

Prof. Arun Chakraborty, Chairman of the Induction Programme remarked, “We look forward to nurture the young dynamic minds with full of innovative and unique ideas that will be considered for Vikshit Bharat. W are fortunate to be a part of their educational journey.

Prof. Tapas Laha, Acting Dean, Student Affairs, “The primary aim of this induction programme is to make you aware of the different academic and non-academic units and information about the institute. At IIT Kharagpur, we believe that to achieve excellence we need overall growth.”

In his keynote address, Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur emphasized IIT’s commitment not just to academic excellence, but to holistic development, innovation, and character building. “I welcome you all as the torch bearers of a proud legacy celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of IIT Kharagpur and you are the first batch to enter the celebrations. The Director introduced SETU@IITKGP, a human-tech renaissance in higher education. With the launch of the Support, Empathy, Transformation & Upliftment (SETU): A Student Wellness and Engagement Framework, the institute is leading a national movement to reimagine student wellbeing, not as an isolated support service, but as a deeply integrated, tech-amplified, human-centric ecosystem. SETU (सेतु) means bridge in Sanskrit and most Indian languages — a profound metaphor for connecting two realms: Isolation to Inclusion, Vulnerability to Strength, Distress to Resilience, Mind to Heart, Tradition to Technology. SETU marks a bold paradigm shift—from reactive mental health response to a proactive resilience architecture, rooted in professional care, peer empowerment, community bonding, and indigenous cultural wisdom.

IIT Kharagpur’s SETU framework, launched on July 25, 2025, during the Welcome and Wellness Programme, is a pioneering, holistic model for student mental health and wellbeing. It rests on five strategic pillars: (1) a layered, inclusive wellness ecosystem led by SARTH—offering one-on-one therapy, psychiatric care, group sessions, 24/7 online counselling (via YourDOST), and campus-wide outreach without stigma or pathologizing labels; (2) AI-powered emotional health monitoring embedded in halls, academics, and TSG, enabling real-time, culturally sensitive support through anonymous check-ins and early-alert systems; (3) peer-led empowerment through groups like SWG, IWG, TSG Welfare Committees, and hostel-level units, making wellbeing a decentralized student-driven culture; (4) diversity, belonging, and expression fostered via student clubs and NEP 2020-linked Student Engagement Projects that turn societal contribution into credit-based learning; and (5) “Campus Mothers”—trained volunteers symbolizing emotionally safe, culturally rooted support based on the ethos of “Ātmavat sarvabhūteṣu.” Designed to be scientifically grounded, technologically enabled, culturally anchored, and compassionately executed, SETU positions IIT Kharagpur as a national model for transformative, human-centered education—nurturing resilient, empathetic future leaders.

For the first time, the induction programme included the parents of the freshers, featuring an interactive session with the Director where they shared their perspectives, hopes, and concerns. While addressing the parents, Prof. Chakraborty added, “You are not just handing over your children to us but you are becoming our partners for their future. Today, I speak to you not only in my capacity as a Director, but from the heart of a father. We have a relationship of trust and two-way communication where the nature of responsibility changes. Your relationship with the Institute does not end with the admission of your child, it begins. We consider it essential to foster a transparent two-way communication with the parents. We will keep you informed and engaged for not only their challenges but also of their achievements and growths. We are starting a Parent-Connect programme which will happen periodically online and you do not need to come here physically. Please remember there is always a scope for improvement. I assure you that all your inputs will be taken seriously but then I request you to take our inputs seriously also. We have a relationship of shared responsibility. If you only think about criticising the system, there will never be any solutions. The administration will concentrate more on working in the fields rather than just interactive meetings. The students here will learn the life skills of managing their time, choosing friends and defining their identities. We just need to positively resolve the uncertainties that might come their way during this academic journey.”
