आईआईटी खड़गपुर के सुपरस्पेशलिटी अस्पताल में ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धि, हुआ पहली सर्जरी
खड़गपुर, 28 सितंबर, 2025 – भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (आईआईटी) खड़गपुर के श्यामा प्रसाद मुखर्जी इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मेडिकल साइंसेज एंड रिसर्च (SPMSH) ने आज अपने नवनिर्मित सुपरस्पेशलिटी अस्पताल में पहली सफल सर्जरी करके एक ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धि हासिल की है। यह इस क्षेत्र में उच्च स्तरीय स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं के एक नए युग की शुरुआत का प्रतीक है।
अस्पताल के वरिष्ठ सर्जन, डॉ. आर. के. बेहेरा के नेतृत्व में डॉक्टरों की टीम ने एक आपातकालीन प्रक्रिया के तहत मरीज के शरीर से एक बाहरी वस्तु को सफलतापूर्वक निकाला। यह डे-केयर सर्जरी इतनी कुशल थी कि मरीज को उसी दिन छुट्टी दे दी गई, जो अस्पताल की उन्नत चिकित्सा क्षमताओं को दर्शाता है। ऑपरेशन थिएटर के पूरी तरह से चालू हो जाने के बाद, अब यह संस्थान 220 बिस्तरों वाले इन-पेशेंट डिपार्टमेंट (IPD) अस्पताल के रूप में तेजी से विस्तार करने के लिए तैयार है।
इस महत्वपूर्ण अवसर पर, आईआईटी खड़गपुर के निदेशक, प्रोफेसर सुमन चक्रवर्ती ने कहा, “यह हमारे लिए एक निर्णायक क्षण है। पिछले कुछ महीनों में, हमने एक पॉलीक्लिनिक से पूरी तरह कार्यात्मक ओपीडी, अत्याधुनिक डायग्नोस्टिक्स और अब इन-पेशेंट सर्जरी तक का सफर तय किया है। यह संस्थान के छात्रों, कर्मचारियों और स्थानीय समुदाय को विश्व स्तरीय स्वास्थ्य सेवा प्रदान करने की हमारी प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है।”
उन्होंने आगे कहा कि SPMSH को न केवल किफायती और विशेषज्ञ चिकित्सा सेवाएं प्रदान करने के लिए, बल्कि चिकित्सा प्रौद्योगिकी में अगली पीढ़ी के नवाचारों के लिए एक प्रमुख अनुसंधान केंद्र के रूप में भी विकसित किया जाएगा। यह पहल स्वास्थ्य सेवा और तकनीकी नवाचार के एकीकरण की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है, जिससे पूरे क्षेत्र के लोगों को लाभ होगा।

Kharagpur, September 28, 2025 – In a landmark step towards transforming healthcare access in the region, IIT Kharagpur’s Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SPMSH) has successfully conducted its first surgery at the newly operational Operation Theatre of its superspeciality hospital. The procedure, led by Dr. R. K. Behera, Senior Surgeon, involved the removal of a foreign body under emergent conditions. The patient was discharged the same day, underscoring the efficiency of advanced day-care surgical services now available at the institute.With the OT functional, SPMSH is set to rapidly scale up towards a 220-bed Mission Mode IPD hospital, expanding its surgical and speciality care capabilities.Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, remarked: “It has been about three months since I assumed charge as Director, and over this period we have made our best efforts to advance from a minimally active polyclinic to a fully functional OPD, introduce state-of-the-art diagnostics, and have now activated in-patient surgery. While this may appear routine elsewhere, for IIT Kharagpur, this marks a decisive breakthrough after years of stalemate.
