भारतीय रेलवे ने दक्षिण पूर्व रेलवे (South Eastern Railway) के अंतर्गत निमपुरा वेस्ट आउटर केबिन और मिदनापुर के बीच 14.52 किलोमीटर लंबी तीसरी रेल लाइन के निर्माण को मंजूरी दे दी है। इस महत्वपूर्ण प्रोजेक्ट पर लगभग 440 करोड़ रुपये की लागत आएगी।
फिलहाल यह रूट अपनी क्षमता से 115.71% अधिक दबाव पर काम कर रहा है, जिससे ट्रेनों के संचालन में काफी देरी होती है। रेलवे के अनुसार, नई लाइन बनने से ट्रेनों की भीड़भाड़ कम होगी और यात्रियों का सफर आसान होगा। इसके साथ ही, कोयला, लौह अयस्क, स्टील और सीमेंट जैसी आवश्यक वस्तुओं की ढुलाई में भी भारी तेजी आएगी।
इस नई लाइन से हर साल 3.52 मिलियन टन (MTPA) अतिरिक्त माल ढुलाई संभव हो सकेगी। यह कदम माल की आवाजाही को तेज करने और उद्योगों को मजबूती देकर देश के आर्थिक विकास को गति देने में अहम भूमिका निभाएगा।

Currently operating at a severe 115.71% capacity, this highly congested route faces significant operational bottlenecks. The addition of the third line is set to drastically reduce this congestion, ensuring smoother movement for passenger trains.
Moreover, the expansion will provide a massive boost to industrial logistics. It will support an additional 3.52 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of freight traffic, accelerating the transportation of essential commodities like coal, iron ore, steel, and cement. This infrastructure upgrade is a major step by the Railways to enhance network reliability and drive economic growth.
